A Review of Bun B's Trill Burgers in Houston

This election year is heating up to be a fierce battle. But Bun B had his "Inauguration" back in 2005 and continues to be a leader of the rapper-entrepreneur game.

The Houston vet launched Trill Burgers in 2021 via pop-up shops in his hometown while the country was slowly emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic. The company gained traction and was even named Good Morning America's Ultimate Burger Spot in 2022. The product is simple: two beef smashburger patties, a slice of American cheese, caramelized onions, pickles and Trill Sauce (think In-N-Out spread but a little different) on a potato bun.

We decided to stop by Trill Burgers' brick and mortar location in downtown Houston during a recent trip to the city. An OG Burger Combo costs $15.28 and comes with a burger, seasoned fries and a soda. A triple patty version and a vegan option are also available. There's bottles of Bun B's Trill OG Orange Soda for an extra $5.00. Each meal is served in a cardboard tray with an image of Bun B smiling at you, daring you to not enjoy the deliciousness.

The burger is perfectly juicy, just salty enough and the Trill Sauce is a nice touch of tangy. The burger is on the smaller side compared to other chain burgers, but leaves room to eat all the fries, which are flavorful and crispy. Sometimes at other burger joints, the fries are an afterthought. But not at Trill Burgers where the fries were equally impressive.

The vibe is really cool. There's reminders everywhere that Trill Burgers is "Houston Made." The outside of the building is bright yellow. Inside, there's a painting of Bun B's late UGK patna Pimp C in the corner. There's a merchandise table in front of a mural that spells out "TRILL" with some images that are distinctly Houston — a screw for DJ Screw and a car wheel with an elbow swanga rim. The music at the restaurant is a variety of Southern bangers (Migos, Usher, UGK of course) and a little bit of pop (Ke$ha).

The atmosphere is welcoming. There's a cooler with bottles of water outside for people waiting in line in the heat. Once you get inside, you order at the counter and then pick up your food. Before sitting down, a worker cleaned a table for us. When we were finished eating and just chatting at our table, another worker offered to throw away our trash.

Trill Burgers is making an impact in the community too. Bun B said on Instagram that his team served more than 1,000 Trill Burgers to people affected by Hurricane Beryl. They are partnering with LRG Clothing to host a back-to-school backpack drive on Saturday. This past weekend, the company hosted an event in Canton, Ohio when Houston Texans great Andre Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

And Trill Burgers is serious about their sports ties. They have multiple locations in the Texans' NRG Stadium and offer concessions at Shell Energy Stadium, home of Houston Dynamo FC and the Houston Dash soccer teams.

To have a delicious meal and know you're supporting a local establishment involved in the community, definitely stop by Trill Burgers.
