Well, that was quick.
New Vince Staples is upon us. Instead of dragging out a whole album rollout, the Long Beach vet announced and released a full project within a week. He also appeared in the Essentials Summer 2024 campaign. So he's been busy.
We could just make a post about Vince's album, but he's of course not the only artist who released music and we know you're here for some new finds. We've got a good mix today with some heat via an international collab and a lil country ballad too.
Here's the KTC music report for May 24:
Vince Staples — "Dark Times" Album
Vince Staples delivered yet again. For his final project on Def Jam, he released "Dark Times," a 13-track journey exploring life's letdowns and reminiscing on simpler memories. When announcing the album, Staples said his new music came after reflecting on "Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2" and there's references to his discography in the project. The same whining notes that made "Blue Suede" a standout serve as the conclusion of "Government Cheese." The gentle voices of Baby Rose on the single "Shame on the Devil" and Maddy Davis on "Nothing Matters" with the Lauryn Hill homage bring "Dark Times" to an ethereal place.
Central Cee ft. Lil Baby — "BAND4BAND" Single
Central Cee is from the UK, but he's quickly establishing himself as a force overseas. For his latest single, "BAND4BAND," he teams up with Atlanta powerhouse Lil Baby for a fiery two-minute drill. They flaunt their success over a booming drill beat.
Mission ft. CJ Emulous and Roy Tosh — "Free" Single
You know how it goes: "Yeah buddy, rolling like a big shot!"
Mission did his thing with this fun song interpolating Dorrough's "Ice Cream Paint Job." "Free" is super hyphy and has big energy because we serve a big God!
Zach Bryan — "Pink Skies" Single
Ok, so maybe you are here for the rap tracks and do not care about country. I didn't either. Until I listened to Zach Bryan. If you haven't heard of him already ("Something in the Orange" is HUGE), here is your chance. With his "Pink Skies" single, Bryan showcases how he's an authentic storyteller who effortlessly switches between growling and belting to touch your soul.
