One of the biggest conversations of the Paris Olympics was the debut of breaking. Even though some questioned the state of the sport/artform on the global stage, Red Bull BC One continues to ensure breaking is celebrated authentically worldwide.
On Friday, the Red Bull BC One West competition was held in Denver. DJ Fleg, who was one of the deejays for the Olympics, provided the soundtrack for the battles. It was a packed house at Temple Nightclub with an audience that bridged the generations of hip-hop lovers.
The event served as a semifinal with the top four b-boys and b-girls advancing to the national final in Los Angeles. The world final will be held in December in Brazil.
Denver's own Kid Cruz took home the trophy in the men's competition. In the semifinals, he outlasted Swazi's incredible power moves and then boogied his way to the title by beating Kobe in the final round.
Another Colorado representative, Radiate, made it to the finals with her personality overtaking the smooth moves of Argentina's Vero. But Las Vegas' A+ brought her A game to take the crown.
